Get Indexed by Google and Start Your Optimization Campaign
Google has a vast number of tools that can help anyone interested in optimizing their website get started. Among these tools Google's keyword analysis tool is one of the best starting points for your search engine optimization (SEO) campaign. In this article I will cover some of the basic uses for this utility and how it relates to your SEO strategies as well as how it gets you indexed by Google.

The first thing that needs to be understood is what a search on Google entails. By no means does Google run a general query on every website that is on the internet rather when you run a search it tries to match your search against the information it has listed in its database. This database is ever growing, not by individuals suggesting that Google search their site but by the incredible technology that Google implements, Spiders.

Spiders are programs or scripts that are continually browsing web pages already in Google's database for new information added to the site. This is how Google keeps you up to date with relevant content. While they are searching these sites the spiders follow every link on that website. Be it to another page on the website or to an entirely new website. What needs to be considered is this "Google adds new sites by following links from sites already listed." This is the key to both getting listed and to your websites optimization.

Right now you are probably asking yourself "How am I supposed to get sites to link to me?" While this may seem like a difficult task in reality it is not. Google not only does the work of finding and indexing your website but indirectly helps you accomplish this.

Here is where Google's Keyword Analysis tool comes into play. This tool gives you statistics about whatever keywords you enter. For example if you run a search for "shoes" the first three keywords that result from this are:

•DC Shoes
•Running Shoes
•Vans Shoes

Basically the keyword analysis tells you, based off whatever root word you type in, what other key phrases come up based off that keyword along with a host of other data. While the data it provides is quite valuable to your SEO strategy it is outside the scope of this article and will be addressed later on. The best way to explain this is by an example which should help to solidify the information. I own a company that sells clothing for dogs and I have just created a website. The website is not indexed by Google and I know no one else in my industry with a webpage. I also do not have the money to hire a company that does SEO but I am just a bit savvy when it comes to these things. I have decided the keywords I want to begin controlling are "Dog Clothes" however I cannot do this overnight as there are many companies that come up when I do a search on Google for "Dog Clothes." Here is where I turn to my trusty keyword analysis tool.

When I run a search with this tool I come across these results:

•Dog Clothes
•Designer Dog Clothes
•Small Dog Clothes
•Cheap Dog Clothes

When we do the search ourselves we notice that the keyword "Dog Clothes" has 23,000 monthly searches (this was at the time of this article) and the next keyword in line "Designer Dog Clothes" has 1,800 monthly searches. Our next step is as follows. We open our browser and head over to Google and run a search for our new keywords. With the results that we get from this search we are now ready to take our second step in both optimizing our site and getting it indexed.

We begin by choosing the first 10 to 15 sites that come up, preferably sites that are not web forums, blogs, or social network groups (we will deal with those in another article). We find the contact information for the company and send off our offer to create an affiliation. This offer should include a brief introduction, the link URL(web address),the display text of the link i.e. "Custom Leather Clothing for Dogs", a brief description of your site, and a direct link to your affiliates page. If you spend only an hour or two a day for a week straight you will accumulate an immense number of people interested in creating an affiliation. Shortly after your link appears on their site, especially if they have a high Google Page Rank, you will be indexed by Google and will have established your base for your SEO campaign.

The Google keyword analysis tool is very powerful and as you have noticed in playing with it that it provides far more data than what is covered so far. Play around with the data and use Google's help section as it is loaded with helpful information related to Google's tools and there functions. In our next article we will go over some more features of Google's keyword analysis tool and how they can be harnessed to supercharge your SEO results
